Decide to Prioritize

As a Business and Life Coach, I have seen that for many clients, decisions can be tough.

The technique that I use to help clients make decisions to move them forward is to prioritize the goals we have for our life; who we want to be, what we want to have, and what we do.

Priorities make complicated decisions easier.

If we are not consciously aware of how we prioritize, deciding feels overwhelming and confused.

If we have not decided that something is a priority, we hesitate and don’t take immediate action.

We “think about it later”.

This is a costly habit.

When we decide that something is a priority, moving forward quickly is easy.

For example, if we decide living debt-free is a priority, spending decisions are crystal clear.

Priorities demand action. Without action, it was not a true priority.

When the family is a priority, work-life balance is more likely to be upheld, even if a business opportunity is delayed. Ironically, prioritizing family relationships often results in a thriving business. We feel good about ourselves when we honor our priorities and that “feel-good” empowers us to move in the direction of our professional potential.

Having our “priorities straight” is a cliché for acting responsibly.

Not deciding on what our priorities are simply letting us off the integrity hook.

The result of not making conscious decisions about our priorities is weak, decision making. Weak decisions charge us “joy” interest because we pay for them later often in regret.

Not deciding and delaying deciding are in fact, decisions that stagnate rich, robust, gratifying satisfaction.

Over time the consequences of this unconscious paradoxical “decision to not decide” are hard to ignore.

For many, not deciding on our priorities often exists under our reasoning radar. We are afraid of the consequences of a decision so we don’t decide. That can result in a slow fade of the kind of dream that makes us giddy with the promise of a happily ever after kind of life. Priorities get harder to establish the more we suffer disappointments.

It takes courage and strength to set priorities and honor them with decisions.

Not consciously deciding what your life and business priorities are, is like making the decision to get into the passenger seat of a moving vehicle……………..with no driver.

Is that how you want to travel through the precious days of your life? Is that the most effective and profitable life strategy?

When we relinquish control of where we are headed by not deciding, we often find ourselves where we never imagined we’d be.

Thinking about this can feel overwhelming. Not thinking about this can leave us vulnerable to unfulfilled aspirations at best and heartbreak and loss at the worst.

When was the last time you put some thought into the priorities that are driving you?

Do they align with your clearly stated vision of the future?

Or, are you a passive passenger along for a ride through life headed towards who knows where?
